Free Mental Health First Aid Hosted by OVP

LA County Office of Violence Prevention is hosting FOUR free Mental Health First Aid Training Events this May.

Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack—but too few of us would know how to respond if we saw a neighbor having a panic attack or if we were worried about a friend's alcoholism. Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by providing an action plan to safely identify and respond to someone dealing with a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis. Like CPR, Mental Health First Aid is an important tool to help us make a difference in our communities. This training will help you build an important skill to provide healing, compassion, and support to those around you.Los Angeles County Office of Violence Prevention is hosting this FREE training for Antelope Valley residents in partnership with the Department of Mental Health in efforts to promote opportunities for healing and social connections within communities.Please note that this training is limited to participants age 18 and up and will focus on providing mental health support to adults. This training will cover:- An overview of trauma, substance use, mental illness, and self-care.- Common signs, symptoms, risk factors, and warning signs.- How to interact with a person in crisis and connect to help.- 5 Step Mental Health First Aid Action Plan.Registration is limited and required for participation. As spots are limited, we would like to prioritize attendance of community members and residents. Participants must attend the entire session for certification.SPACE IS LIMITED! LUNCH IS PROVIDED!
