The Sometimes Island w/ New Constellations

Alberta Abbey aims to nurture the creative, visual and performing arts in N/NE Portland by amplifying opportunities for Black and underrepresented communities. The Abbey serves this mission by providing affordable education, gallery, studio, and performance spaces, and showcasing events for local groups of all ages.

<h3><strong>T﻿HE SOMETIMES ISLAND</strong></h3><p>The Sometimes Island makes synth-forward beach music and has been called “the future of synthpop” by Buzznet. The band is led by frontman Matt Blankenship Jr, with Chilean-born guitarist Felipe Valdivia and anchored by drummer Nick Lopiano. LA Weekly noted “their single Phantom Limb cracked the Top 40 Radio charts… and by the looks of it - they aren’t anywhere near finished with the climb.”</p>

<h3><strong>N﻿EW CONSTELLATIONS</strong></h3><p>The ethereal brainchild of lifelong sidekicks Harlee Case and Josh Smith - encapsulates a sonic dreamscape of eager melodies, striking guitar hooks, and celestial vocals that softly tangles listeners into a web of otherworldly glory. The Portland-based duo first explored collaborating when they were 14, recording a song together in Josh’s childhood bedroom, before spending the next 15 years exploring their individual approaches to music separately and eventually crafting the dynamic perspective that would become New Constellations. The two debuted with the single, “Hot Blooded,” an incomprehensibly magnetic voyage that offers warmth and compassion, and has now amassed over 8 million streams on Spotify alone.</p><p>After a monumental first year that included selling out Portland’s own Mission Theater, appearing at A2IM’s Indie Week in NYC, and earning a top-slot placement on Gorillaz’s “G-Mix 17 by Noodle” editorial playlist, Harlee and Josh are electric as ever, poising themselves for upcoming releases that can only be described as a continuation of their signature gilded alchemy.</p><h3></h3>
