We ask for a donation instead of paying an event fee
100% of proceeds support cancer research, instead of an event registration fee. Our goal is to limit any possible barriers of participation for this event.
Shin Iisaka was a beloved father, husband, son, friend, Pelotonia fundraiser and bike rider. He was killed by a drunk driver while out on a group training bike ride, 63 miles short of his goal to ride 2020 miles in 2020.
Come join us and celebrate Shin and fight cancer!
Join us for a celebration of biking! Three options to choose the day of:
1. ~2 mile family ride around Grandview Heights
2. ~30 mile ride (turnaround at halfway point rest station)
3. ~63 mile ride towards London OH and back
Event starts 8am (blessing of the bikes to kick us off). Arrive 7:45-8am
Assemble near the parking lot of Trinity United Methodist Church (1581 Cambridge Blvd, Columbus OH 43212) - Cambridge Blvd and W 5th Ave 43212
Bike route will be marked with signs at turns for the 30 & 63 mile rides...or just follow the crowd!
After the ride we’ll have an after-ride celebration gathering at The Ohio Taproom around 1:30pm.
Register so we know how many people to plan for at the rest stops. We will also send emails in advance with Ride Day info (e.g. who to call if you need assistance).
Frequently asked questions
No, our goal is to reduce any barriers to participation on our bike ride. Instead of a registration fee we ask you to consider a donation directly to Pelotonia, through Shin's memorial rider account. Link is on the main page "Donate here". All donations are tax deductible and fund cancer research.
Everyone has a different answer...but we have many past participants who were caught up in the energy of the ride and rode 30 miles without realizing it. Remember, you can always turn around when you want to.
This is a ride, not a race. There are no medals for speed. Go the speed you feel comfortable with.
Wear a bike helmet and bring a bike. It is summer so bring at least one water bottle with you. At Darby Creek park we will have a rest station with a bathroom, snacks and more water (halfway for the 30 mile ride).
First, he would love if you considered a donation to Pelotonia, of any amount. (see the donate here link above) Second, join us and ride! Smile while riding and say hi!
There is no parking in the church parking lot this year (there is a wedding), but parking is available (free) along the side streets. Just follow the street signs to avoid no parking areas.
