Tanya Selvaratnam’s book “Assume Nothing: A Story of Intimate Violence” shines a light on the global crisis of violence against women.

This world renowned author will be sharing her story about her abusive relationship with former New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in a virtual talk to our group May 10 at 5:30pm.Strong Savvy Women, a support group for single women founded by Divorce Coach and journalist Amy Polacko, is hosting this event with cosponsors Hayvn and The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). The event will be held at Hayvn, a coworking space in Darien, where there will be mingling at 5:30. Author Tanya Selvaratnam will speak to the group virtually at 6pm and then Strong Savvy Women will hold its discussion about the talk from 7-8:30pm. All are invited to attend and registration is required via Eventbrite.“As an abuse survivor myself, I appreciate how brave Tanya Selvaratnam was to write this book and not only help other victims, but educate those who have not experienced this on how it happens to smart, successful women,” said Polacko. “Our Strong Savvy Women speakers consistently address coercive control and domestic abuse so we are thrilled to bring this talk to our audience which cares deeply about this topic.”The event fee is $20 payable through Eventbrite (virtual tickets via Zoom are not available for this event). Register in advance and bring a friend!Strong Savvy Women meets monthly providing education and support for single, divorced, divorcing or widowed women in our area. As a divorce coach, founder Amy Polacko of Freedom Warrior (www.freedomwarrior.info) empowers women during/after a divorce or toxic relationship and helps them create an amazing next chapter. Strong Savvy Women is under this umbrella and its Facebook community is free for all women, no matter what stage they are at in the process. The group’s focus is moving forward – by supporting each other, learning from expert speakers and having fun. Past event topics have included Jennifers’ Law, coercive control, financial tips, managing the emotional rollercoaster of divorce, co-parenting, advice from divorce attorneys, self-love and real estate for single women. It has also held social events like a recent Galentine’s Day party in New Canaan and a Girls Day at the Greenwich Polo Club last summer.Strong Savvy Women usually meets monthly at Hayvn, a women-centered coworking space at 320 Post Road (Suite 180) in Darien.
