<ul><li> A﻿n all day inter-generational event for all the family in the heart of Handsworth, Birmingham . A space to go deep; to learn from each other; to ask questions; to interrogate our assumptions and to connect and collaborate with others who are similarly passionate about Panjabi &amp; Pahari-Pothwari language and literature. T﻿his will be a packed day of simultaneous workshops, performances, talks, discussions and conversations taking place in two sites next door to each other on Soho Road. P﻿erformances</li></ul><ul><li>O﻿pening Address: &#x27;Kook Farida Kook&#x27; by Nuzhat Abbas</li></ul><ul><li>Kala Doria: Panjabi-Pothwari Tappay &amp; Boliyaan Revisited. A sangeet night, led by Abda Khan with a dholki. We will sing traditional folk songs, discuss themes and issues along with troubling lines and perspectives, coming together to sing new revised and improvised versions.</li></ul><ul><li>Poetry performance and writing workshop Apni Boli – Apni Pehchaan, with Wolverhampton Poet Laureate Dr Kuli Kohli and the Punjabi Women&#x27;s Writing Group. </li></ul><ul><li>&#x27;Sahiban Speaks&#x27;; A collaborative performance between R﻿upinder Kaur and Vibs Bhatia with music, poetry and movement - exploring the love tales of Panjab from the perspective of Heer, Sohni, Sassi and Sahiban.</li></ul><ul><li>Shams Rehman from Jammu Kashmir TV will be hosting a live show called &#x27;Pahari Behtak: Gap Shap&#x27;, in which he will discuss stories and poetry written by Daalat Ali and Parveen Khan, alongside their writing journey. </li></ul><ul><li>Rinkoo Barpaga&#x27;s powerful show Made In (India) Britain: Through pain and laughter, Roo narrates the impact of ableism and racism throughout his childhood and adult life. (This performance will be in BSL, Spoken English and Closed Captions.</li></ul><ul><li>Allar Ballar Bavay Da: Stories and Songs for Children with Nuzhat Abbas </li></ul><ul><li>Poetry performances and Open Mic hosted by Nafeesa Hamid and Kamil Mahmood from Gully Collective. </li></ul>W﻿orkshops <ul><li>P﻿oetry performance and a &#x27;Multilingual Poetry Workshop: discovering new avenues to express all your languages, written or spoken.&#x27; with poet Nabeela Ahmed. Ever thought about writing in your mother tongue, whatever it might be? This workshop is for all those who want to discover new avenues to express all their languages, written or spoken.</li></ul><ul><li>&#x27;Space, Place and Refusal in Panjabi Women&#x27;s Poetry&#x27;: An inter-generational workshop, reading, translating and discussing the poetry of Amrita Pritam and Nasreen Anjum Bhatti with Manjot Dhaliwal. Bring a grandmother, mum, aunt, daughter, neice or younger/older friend. (W﻿omen and non-binary only.) </li></ul><ul><li>A workshop on emotion in Panjabi music and lyrics with songwriter G.S.Nawapindya and Shuranjeet Singh (Taraki)</li></ul><ul><li>A practical workshop: Learning Panjabi through a ﻿Structural, Linguistic Approach with Kanwal Dhaliwal</li></ul><ul><li>&#x27;M﻿aee Sanu Khedan De&#x27;:Performance as Liberating Experience&#x27; with Abuzar Madhu</li></ul>T﻿alks<ul><li>Sufi literature and Dalit Literature with Amarjit Singh</li><li> Interrogating Caste in Popular Panjabi Music with Dr Koonal Duggal</li><li>Connecting/Documenting Geneologies in the British Mirpuri Community with Awais Hussain </li><li>J﻿ugni on Fire: Jugni&#x27;s Resistance - Freedom or Fantasy? (Questioning the Radical Potential of Love in our Stories) chaired by Aaisha Akhtar, with Jasber Singh, Kavita Bhanot and Pakeezah Zahoor</li></ul>In Conversations <ul><li>An informal conversation with Dr Karamat Iqbal on education, language and identity in the Pakistani and Kashmiri community with Dr Farah Nazir</li><li>Migrant Writers, British Children: Bringing Panjabi Authors into the Frame: ﻿A conversation between Professor Virinder Kalra and Hardish Virk</li><li>Samurais, Sinbad and Scientists: Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy, History and Horror in Panjabi - Conversation and Readings with Roop Dhillon</li></ul>Performance ﻿Art<ul><li>Cha Wali, 2019 by Roo Dhissou </li><li> Cycling to Freedom: A﻿ Performance by Farha Bi that follows a young Kashmiri woman who, feeling burnt-out and disconnected, goes on the road to rediscover the ancestral knowledge within, finding belonging and liberation in nature, with music by Shavena</li></ul>Jaag aims to be a space where everyone feels welcome, safe and valued. <ul><li>Events will be a mixture of languages: English, Panjabi, Pahari-Pothwari</li></ul><ul><li>We are committed to creating and holding a space for difficult conversations, including normalised and invisiblised power dynamics. We request people to listen, speak and engage from a place of interrogation, openness and empathy. </li></ul><ul><li>Racism, casteism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, classism, discrimination or harassment of any kind, against any individual or group of people will be met with zero-tolerance and the audience member or performer / speaker will be asked to leave.</li></ul><ul><li>This is an inter-generational, family friendly festival; no alcohol or drugs are permitted onsite. There will be a creche available at the venue for children under the age of ten, with activities and storytelling. There is step-free access to the buildings and lifts inside. B﻿SL interpreters will be available throughout the day.
