Triangles are very strong shapes that are quite useful building strong and stable structures. They are favored by architects and structural engineers. Some of the most famous structures such as the Eiffel Tower, Great Pyramids of Giza, the Louvre Pyramid and the NYC Flatiron Building use triangles to make beautiful, durable structures. In its most basic form, a truss is a structure that takes advantage of the inherent characteristics of a triangle and trusses grew popular in the early 1800s. Trusses revolutionized the way structures were built. Today trusses are used in not only used in bridges, but also residential structures, commercial buildings, cranes, towers, and sculptures, and has helped create modern society. This seminar is intended to provide exposure to the architectural and structural concepts and applications involving triangles and trusses as they are applied to bridges and buildings.
