There will be a panel at Kornel Theatre at the Main Library in San Francisco featuring Club Q founder and legendary DJ, Page Hodel, choreographer, Richelle Donigan, and other special guests. Get your dance on at the after party hosted by Strut that follows this event in the Castro. These events are hosted and curated by local artist, tanea lunsford lynx. Please reserve a separate ticket to the afterparty event, and arrive on time to the panel to guarantee your spot. tanea lunsford lynx (pronouns flexible) is a fourth-generation Black San Franciscan on both sides. tanea is a writer, educator, and cultural worker. She is Chair of the Spoken Arts Department at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and teaches Social justice and Ethnic Studies classes at City College of San Francisco. They have more than 10 years of experience as a performing artist and curator. You can find their work online at tanealunsfordlynx.com. P﻿anelists include:AARIN BURCH's career has been dedicated to creating compelling explorations of how people navigate their interior landscapes and the mirror it holds to their relationships, particularly children of Black/White parentage, her own mother-daughter conflicts, and a personal narrative revealing the fears and aspirations of the filmmaker as a lover and artist. A frequently requested speaker and panelist, Aarin recently participated in “Interior Lives,” a program of the 2023 Sojourner Truth Festival of the Arts at the University of Chicago, which screened two of her early films: Dreams of Passion (1989), set in a dance studio, explores desire and is acknowledged as one of the first films to feature a kiss shared between two Black women; her following film Spin Cycle (1989), takes an autobiographical look at Burch’s own love affairs and filmmaking aspirations. At the historic Club Q, San Francisco's legendary once-a-month dance party for queer women and their friends, Aarin created interactive visuals by layering live performance video with colorful projections and found footage to envelope the space in a multi-textured, immersive experience. She has also directed and produced innovative films on the mixed-race experience including My People Are (2007), exploring youth pride in multiracial heritage. A San Francisco native, Aarin earned her B.F.A in film from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1991. Today an internationally recognized independent filmmaker, Aarin has also produced, directed, and edited documentaries, short narratives, promotional videos, and music videos with artists KD Lang, Lily Tomlin, Indigo Girls, and Patti Labelle. Her experience spans a gamut of roles including director, producer, editor, production assistant, set dresser, production coordinator. She has produced and directed films for Olivia Travel for nearly three decades and was production manager under director Pratibha Parmar for the documentaries A Place of Rage (1991) featuring Angela Davis and June Jordan, and Warrior Marks (1993) with Alice Walker. For over 40 years, Bay Area native Page Hodel has been an integral part of the soul of the San Francisco Bay Area music scene. Her phenomenal success as a dance club DJ, a radio mixtress, and a club promoter has established her as a world-renowned institution in the music industry. Page’s extraordinary career has always been grounded in two things: a profound love and respect for the fiercest soul music; and a dedication to creating entertainment events that celebrate diversity. In 1972 Page began her musical pursuits with a trip to Paris to study classical guitar at the Conservatoire de Musique Jean Courbin, at the age of 16. She returned to the United States to follow her focused passion for music, playing with several local funk bands here in the Bay Area including Mama Says Funk. During the early 80’s, Page became the first female mixer on a major market radio station, mixing the legendary “Noon Mix” on KSOL which was followed by a regular spot recording the LIVE 105 “Mid-day Mix”. In addition she occasionally recorded evening mixes on KMEL. With crowds suddenly lining up around the block at every venue Page was spinning records, it seemed that once again the party always followed Page. In 1987 her nightclub promotion career was born when Page started “the Box” and “Club Q”, two of San Francisco’s legendary and longest running dance clubs. She enjoyed an unbelievable 11-year run with “the Box”, creating an unprecedented spirited “dance community” of gay and straight men and women of all colors, celebrating our beautiful diversity together, and an extraordinary 16 year run with the smash success of “club Q” a once a month dance party for women and friends. Richelle has danced across stages and continents for more than 40 years. She is filled with gratitude for the grace that has allowed her to continue to bring forth her gift at 65. She dedicates her movement to all of her ancestors whose lives were taken yet whose spirits fly free, they form every whip of her head, the curve of her back, clap of her hands &amp; sweep, turn, and pound of her feet. She walks deep in her love and dedication to movement. Richelle says I am Dance. She has formed her career dedicated to body, mind, and spirit as one. Yoga &amp; Meditation Instructor, Massage Therapist &amp; Life Coach. She continues to perform and brings her life force and boundless joy to Dance; for Richelle, Dance is Life itself.
