The art of Spoken Word has finally been acknowledged by the recording academy but Poets have been competing for titles for decades. Poetry Slam happens all around the world and the coveted titles are respected much like mainstream awards. In the American Poetry Scene, being a National Poetry Slam champion (NPS) is a big deal and South Florida has been represented many times on that stage. The South Fried Poetry Slam is a regional slam that also has South Florida Poets competing annually.

LYRICALLY SPEAKING is an extension of the Historic Lyric Theater&#x27;s continued support of South Florida artists. April is National Poetry Month so this competition will be held In conjunction with On The B Side as a part of the 2023 programming. Poets will be selected to compete for $3000 in cash prizes and the title of Lyric Theater Poet Laureate for the historic venue. 

The competition will follow NPS rules and all competitors will be required to have a &quot;LYRIC&quot; piece prepared for the 3rd and final round.
