The mission of WorldBoston is to foster engagement in international affairs and cooperation with peoples of all nations.  As globalization increasingly shapes every aspect of life on our planet, so does our Greater Boston region increasingly experience, and even help shape, these global trends.By means of our nationally-recognized global engagement and citizen diplomacy programs and our networking and community events, every year WorldBoston provides people from all over the world – and people right here – hundreds of opportunities for learning and connection. Our community includes professionals in every field, including government, business, media, education, science, and the arts; young people; and citizen diplomats.

Today, no countries have open borders. Every state in today’s global system has its own laws and policies about who is permitted to cross its borders, and how they will do so. Who determines whether someone is a refugee or a migrant? How have different countries, including the United States, reacted to migration? How effective are the international laws, policies and organizations that have evolved to assist and protect refugees and migrants?WorldBoston, Boston Network for International Development, and the United Nations Association of Greater Boston join forces to host Great Decisions on Refugees and Global Migration. To address the topic is a fantastic panel comprised of:

Karen Jacobsen: Henry J. Leir Professor in Global Migration at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Friedman School of Nutrition, and director of the Refugees and Forced Migration Program at the Feinstein International Center; and author of the 2019 Great Decisions "Refugee and Global Migration" articleJeffrey Thielman: President and CEO of the International Institute of New England Mary Truong: Executive Director of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Refugees and ImmigrantsFollowing the discussion, there is a reception with tabling by local organizations actively working with refugees and immigrants in Boston!This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Refreshments will be provided!
