Butte Glenn Counties Options for Recovery Annual Cross Training presents Julie Torok-Mangasarian, MA, LMFT, RPT-S, RPM (resume below).

<p>The Options for Recovery (OFR) Program is a program that recruits, trains and approves resource parents, including relative caregivers, in Butte and Glenn Counties. Our goal is to have trained and approved resource homes dedicated to providing care to some of the most vulnerable children in our community in an effective and loving manner. This year OFR has teamed up with Julie Torok-Mangasarian, MA, LMFT, RPT-S, RPM of Cloverleaf Family Counseling to provide you with a training experience to remember. The training is on The Impact of Early Childhood Trauma on Brain, Attachment, and Behavior.  Participants will explore the impact of childhood adversity, trauma and prolonged, unaddressed stress on the infant/toddler/preschooler and parent-child relationships. Additionally, the workshop will review how chronic stress may lead to interference with brain development, emotional regulation and can contribute to child maltreatment.</p>

Agenda

Outline/Schedule: 9:00-10:15: Definition and review of trauma, window of tolerance, emotional/behavioral regulation, brain, and body stress functions/systems. Introduction to internal working models and theory of mind. 10:15-10:30: Break 10:30-12:00pm: Proactive Approaches: The power of play, mindfulness practices, movement (kinesthetic activities), and body attunement. Activities (breathing, bilateral integration, progressive muscle relaxation). 12:00-1:00pm: Lunch 1:00-2:15pm: Co-regulation, the power of relationship, and culturally responsive approaches: • Regulating and labeling emotions and behaviors • Discipline without shame • Time-in 2:15-2:30: Break 2:30-4:30: Co-regulation, the power of relationship, and culturally responsive approaches: • Modeling skills for kiddos (lead by example). • Activities (breathing, bilateral integration, progressive muscle relaxation). • When to consult, refer, or further address significant concerns.
