Chopsticks Alley Art cordially invites you to the first development workshop of Tales of Ancient Viet Nam, a new Theater for Young Audience play by Vinh G. Nguyen. Commissioned by Chopsticks Alley Art. The play aims to serve as a multi-generational theatrical event for families in the South Bay community. The workshop will comprise of a brief research presentation and a staged reading of the play, followed by a Q&amp;A, and reception.About the Play: Tales of Ancient Việt Nam follows the journey of Lan, a second-generation, Vietnamese American, as she discovers her cultural roots and identity through a series of beloved Vietnamese folktales told by her Bà Nội (grandmother). The play spotlights an empowering Vietnamese youth experience in America, while weaving in Vietnamese culture, traditions, and foods through whimsical music, movement, and puppetry.About the Playwright: Vinh G. Nguyen (he/him/his) is a multi-faceted theatre director, educator, and arts administrator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some of his recent and upcoming directing projects include: Allegiance, Company, Next To Normal, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Vinh has taught at San Jose State, San Diego State, and Las Positas College. Vinh holds an MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University.
