Flinn Gallery Artist Talk: an online conversation with Gyöngy Laky

Twice a year for 10 days, the founders open their private home – a two-story barn built in 1895 expanded and contemporized by architect David Ling in 2000 – for “Art in the Barn,” a unique salon-style exhibition. Over 3500-square feet of space with a viewing vista of 55’ allows for experiencing works that reflect complex illusionary space. The 21’ high ceilings permit the installation of tall sculptures and two free-standing walls enable dramatically shaped fiber structures best hung off the wall. The living environment also grants the artwork to be shown in situ. browngrotta arts has published more than 50 art catalogs and placed works in private and corporate collections in the US and abroad, including the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Arts and Design, Art Institute of Chicago, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum. They also regularly work with architects and interior designers offering consultation for commissioned artworks and site-specific installation for commercial and residential spaces.

The Flinn Gallery in collaboration with browngrotta arts of Wilton, CT is pleased to
present WordPlay: Messages in Branches & Bark. The exhibition features the work
of two internationally renowned artists, Gyöngy Laky and John McQueen.

<h3>Screwing With Order: an online conversation with Gyöngy Laky</h3>Presented by the Flinn Gallery, Greenwich Library and <a href="http://www.browngrotta.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">browngrotta arts</a>, Wilton, Connecticut.Join Gyöngy Laky, whose work is featured in <a href="https://flinngallery.com/wordplay-messages-in-branches-bark/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WordPlay: Messages in Branches &amp; Bark at the Flinn Gallery </a>(March 30 - May 10, 2023), as she talks about her unusual art-making process which champions sustainability, original thinking and the value of the unexpected. Laky, subject of the recent book, <a href="https://store.browngrotta.com/b-71/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Gyöngy Laky: Screwing with Order</a>, assembled art, actions and creative practice, will speak about her expansive art and life. She immigrated as a child from Hungary, studied art and textiles in Paris, India and at UC Berkeley, taught at UC Davis, created land art and installations, and promoted hiring of women and other underrepresented individuals. The presentation will include images of Laky&#x27;s work, artistic influences, and unique practice. M﻿ore on the exhibition:WordPlay: Messages in Branches &amp; Bark will include more than 50 sculptures by these two innovative artists. The work is both beautiful and intriguing, as it invites viewers to decipher words and meanings and examine how the pieces were assembled and constructed. There are elements of wit, whimsy, and fantasy in many of the pieces, leaving visitors both amazed and amused.
