How might we play our way to collective liberation?

Join the <a href="https://foodculture.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Food Culture Collective</a> for a virtual Around the Table conversation on March 30th, as we tap into the creative potential of centering joy in food, land, and cultural work. Too often, play is relegated to the realm of childhood recreation. What would the world look like if we fed our collective capacity to embrace play? As author adrienne maree brown puts it in Pleasure Activism;<blockquote> “Pleasure is not one of the spoils of capitalism. It is what our bodies, our human systems, are structured for; it is the aliveness and awakening, the gratitude and humility, the joy and celebration of being miraculous.”</blockquote>Play is a way to reimagine our world, to try on new ways of nourishing ourselves and our communities, by growing a food culture where everyone gets to be free. So, what happens when we step through the portal?This free, virtual event will feature artist and creative facilitator Kai Tzeng (she/they), in conversation with community organizer and advocate for Black food, culture and history, KJ Kearney (he/him). Tzeng is creator of<a href="https://www.cattailscomix.com/about" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Cattails Comix</a>, an ecological comic strip from the imagined perspective of all non-human beings inextricably tied to our human decisions. Kearney is founder of the prolific social media channel <a href="https://www.instagram.com/blackfoodfridays/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Black Food Fridays</a>, dedicated to platforming and highlighting Black-owned restaurants and documenting Black food history. Their casual roundtable conversation will be facilitated by Food Culture Collective’s Digital Culture Creative, Ada Cuadrado-Medina.Together, we’ll unearth play as a resource for shifting power and creating a culture of care for the lands, waters and people who nourish us. As cultural practitioners who center fun, joy and humor in their work, Tzeng and Kearney will dive into how play can offer us a path towards deep nourishment.

FC Cltv is a national, multi-racial culture change organization. We recognize transforming food culture as foundational to transforming culture at large. At FC Cltv, we center and prioritize the leadership, joy, and nourishment of BIPOC community members. We invite aspiring allies and co-conspirators – specifically those who identify as white – to support us in this commitment by holding each other accountable to the transformative individual &amp; collective work needed to shift power away from white supremacy culture to nurture a culture of care, equity, and justice. <h3>Accessibility</h3>Zoom closed captioning will be available for this event.Conversation content will be delivered in English, but interpretation is available and can be requested in the registration form.
