The Midtown Scholar Bookstore is honored to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning author Colson Whitehead to Harrisburg for an in-person conversation on his new novel, CROOK MANIFESTO. In his new work, Whitehead continues his Harlem saga in a powerful and hugely-entertaining novel that summons 1970s New York in all its seedy glory. Whitehead will be in conversation with author Joseph Earl Thomas. T﻿his ticketed event will take place at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg. Every ticket includes a signed copy of the book and up to two general admission seats. Doors will open at 6:00pm, and the event will begin at 7:00pm. When a fire severely injures one of Carney’s tenants, he enlists Pepper to look into who may be behind it. Colson Whitehead’s kaleidoscopic portrait of Harlem is sure to stand as one of the all-time great evocations of a place and a time.About the Authors:Colson Whitehead is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Underground Railroad, which in 2016 won the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction and the National Book Award and was named one of the Ten Best Books of the Year by The New York Times Book Review, as well as The Noble Hustle, Zone One, Sag Harbor, The Intuitionist, John Henry Days, Apex Hides the Hurt, and The Colossus of New York. He is also a Pulitzer Prize finalist and a recipient of the MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellowships. He lives in New York City.Joseph Earl Thomas is a writer from Frankford whose work has appeared or is forthcoming in VQR, N+1, Gulf Coast, The Offing, and The Kenyon Review. He has an MFA in prose from The University of Notre Dame and is a doctoral candidate in English at the University of Pennsylvania. An excerpt of his memoir, Sink, won the 2020 Chautauqua Janus Prize and he has received fellowships from Fulbright, VONA, Tin House, and Bread Loaf. He’s writing the novel God Bless You, Otis Spunkmeyer, and a collection of stories: Leviathan Beach, among other oddities.
