No more trying to be mindful alone.The Hive exists to develop creative, compassionate, and mindfully-engaged citizens in the Cincinnati region through small group classes and workshops. We have curated a collective of proven teachers, facilitators, and spiritual directors to help guide your learning in mindfulness, contemplation, art and action. We hope you'll try a class and like it enough to become a regular member. Your partnership helps make this nonprofit possible.(As a social enterprise, the Hive shares our story with photos of classes and events. Click here to join today.</a></p><h2>Mary Oliver Sound Immersion</h2><h3>Domain: Creative Expression, Contemplative Practice</h3><p>Come soak in the wisdom of acclaimed poet Mary Oliver and open your ears and soul to an eclectic concert of sound. This 90-minute evening experience will feature the meditative reading of 10 Mary Oliver poems. In the spaces between, there will be a menagerie of sounds designed to soothe and refresh our minds and souls. Also woven into the evening is a mix of silence, and reflective dialogue.</p><p>Before her death in 2019, Mary Oliver won a Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for her poetry. Many of her poems are about her deep insights into nature. Spiritual and accessible, she asks intriguing, challenging questions, such as the one she poses in her poem The Summer Day: &quot;What will you do with your one wild and precious life?&quot; Integral to this experience is the creative and calming use of sound from a variety of instruments, each collection of sound preparing us for the next poem.</p><p>If you wish to be one of the readers for this session, contact Tom Sparough before the program at tsparough@gmail.com.</p><p>Tom Sparough is a 36-year veteran freelance performer known as the Space Painter. An appreciator of sound, he experiments with auditory delights. He is also the author of several books and a member of the National Storytelling Network and the Healing Story Alliance. At the Hive, Tom has shared storytelling evenings and facilitated his course, Practicing to Play. This session arises from retreat experiences that Tom has designed for a variety of groups.</p><h3>Covid Considerations: Masks are currently optional at the Hive. Individuals may choose to wear a mask for personal protection, and as always, we ask anyone who is feeling sick or has a high temperature to not attend until they are recovered.
