Zero-carbon substitutes will</h3><h3>be key to full decarbonization. Despite critical efforts to expand electrification, some projections suggest that</h3><h3>Co2 emitting fuels could still serve one quarter of final energy demand by mid-century. Marine shipping,</h3><h3>heavy-duty trucking, high-temperature industrial process heating, ironmaking, long-duration energy storage,</h3><h3>and aviation are particularly difficult to electrify and will need cost-effective zero-carbon fuels.</h3><h3>Clean hydrogen is currently enjoying unprecedented political and business momentum, with the number of</h3><h3>policies and projects around the world expanding rapidly. It concludes that now is the time to scale up</h3><h3>technologies and bring down costs to allow hydrogen to become widely used. The pragmatic and actionable</h3><h3>recommendations to governments and industry that are provided will make it possible to take full advantage</h3><h3>of this increasing momentum.</h3><h3></h3><h3>POSSIBLE PATHWAYS</h3><h3>The 9th Hawaii Bioeconomy Forum presents the possible paths that an oil and gas company could become a</h3><h3>sustainable development corporation and continue to be relevant in the future.</h3><h3>As a major shift in energy sources is happening, the surge in renewable energy sources to supply electricity,</h3><h3>heating and cooling play an ever more important part for a sustainable future, thus the need for an oil and gas</h3><h3>industry could reduce significantly.</h3><h3>The Forum aims to present alternative sustainable pathways such as the extraction of natural hydrogen. This</h3><h3>Forum also proposes the use of electrolysis ships for the flexible production of green hydrogen and presents</h3><h3>that its investment cost can be three times smaller than in fixed electrolysis plants. The oil and gas industry</h3><h3>has substantial intellectual, financial capital and geopolitical influence that would not be lost during a shift to a</h3><h3>more sustainable world.
