<h1>Overview:</h1><p>The FNFC is hosting the first Indigenous Technical Advisory Network (ITAN) Forum. We are inviting First Nations biologists, technicians, Indigenous Knowledge holders, and interested participants to convene and discuss matters of common interests as it relates to fish, fisheries and aquatic resources. At the ITAN Forum, we hope to share updates and discuss with participants on recent technical discussions relating to salmon, aquaculture and fisheries habitat. </p><p><strong>You are cordially invited to attend and participate in the first Indigenous Technical Advisory Network (ITAN) Forum. </strong></p><p><strong>The ITAN Forum will be held both in-person and virtually. In-person attendance is encouraged. Zoom link will be provided to registered participants. </strong></p><h2>Forum Objective:</h2><p>The objective of this forum is to increase collaborative science capacity by promoting the inclusion of First Nations’ science and Indigenous Knowledge in management and technical processes, while supporting First Nations in BC to share experiences with one another. This will include the participation of First Nations biologists, technicians, Indigenous Knowledge holders, and interested participants to provide advice and feedback on matters of shared concerns. Planned agenda topics include salmon rebuilding and Limit Reference Points, Mass Marking and Mark Selective Fisheries, etc. </p><h2>Background:</h2><p>First Nations organizations are often asked to engage in or respond to a high volume of fisheries meetings and related processes; therefore capacity, time, and resourcing are some factors that can limit effective and meaningful participation. The First Nations Fisheries Council of BC (FNFC) has heard concerns from many First Nations organizations or representatives about meeting fatigue, challenges to provide timely responses, and capacity limitations to effectively participate in numerous activities. FNFC has developed the Indigenous Technical Advisory Network (ITAN) intending to help address this gap.</p><p>ITAN is designed to be an adaptive collective of identified and interested First Nations-centered participants with a wide range of expertise, knowledge, skills, and interest across the province. To engage in the diverse set of potential scientific and technical topics, FNFC is convening technical discussions with experts to share information, collaborate, and generate First Nations-centered technical advice and recommendations to ITAN. In turn, advice from these sessions can inform other initiatives and First Nations broadly. We welcome participation from First Nations and First Nations organizations that are interested and wish to participate in these technical discussions. </p><p></p>

<h2>F﻿orum Structure: </h2><p>The ITAN Forum will follow a conference-style structure. Participants will have the opportunity to sit-in and participate in discussions relating to various technical matters and hear more about interesting work being done to build First Nations collective capacity. An agenda will be provided closer to the date. </p><p><strong>Catering will be provided for registered participants.</strong></p>
