MIT Solve Brain Trust: Financing Social Innovation

Financing Social Innovation Hosted by MIT Solve and Societe Generale
Join us for a collaborative partnership building event focused on the question of financing social innovation. Hosted by MIT Solve and Societe Generale, this event brings together prominent figures from Societe Generale to network with technologies sourced by MIT Solve’s Global Challenges.
In September 2018, MIT Solve issued a global call for solutions addressing challenges in sustainability, health, education, and economic prosperity. Over a thousand applications from around the world heeded the call and were evaluated by expert judges. The result: 33 innovators, or Solver teams, were selected to join the Solve community, five of whom will be joining us for this workshop!
During this session, participants will have the opportunity to bring their expertise to Solver teams by giving strategic advice on their financial and business planning and providing new connections.

This R&D group explores how the digitalization of the economy coupled with financial innovation can bridge the SDG investment gap. Working with its institutional and corporate clients as well as public and multilateral entities, the bank co-constructs disruptive business model focused on the achievement of positive impacts while creating long term value for all stakeholders. Marie-Aimee is also a leading contributor to the <A HREF="https://www.unepfi.org/positive-impact/positive-impact/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UNEP-FI Positive Impact Initiative</A>, promoting inclusive and holistic impact assessment frameworks and impact-based business models to scale up solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Refactored.ai solves for the global skills gap challenge, providing a scalable solution to keep workforce skills current and relevant in the midst of rapid technological advancement. Refactored.ai's on-demand reskilling platform increases data literacy across organizations and transforms employees into data thinkers.

Shimmy Upskill provides garment workers with digital skills to thrive in the age of automation. Shimmy Upskill’s learning software uses game mechanics and AI to teach digital pattern making and 3D modeling—in-demand skills—allowing workers to move into a higher-paid position at a factory where they’re already employed.

To create locally appropriate tools, Neopenda designed a neonatal vital signs monitor specifically for low-resource settings, where continuous power and wireless connectivity may not be available. The wearable device integrates continuous monitoring of pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen saturation, and temperature, and collects continuous sensor data at the point of care.

Jim Gray, <A HREF="https://solve.mit.edu/challenges/coastal-communities/solutions/3505" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Green Stream Flood Monitoring</A> 
 
Green Stream uses low-cost, low-power sensors to provide authorities, businesses, and the general public with the data needed to plan for and react to floods appropriately, reducing safety risks and preventing property loss. Green Stream’s end-to-end system monitors flooding and reports data in real time, answering two key questions: “where is it flooding?” and “how deep is the water?”
