Fibershed is a non-profit educational and research organization that develops regenerative textile systems that are based on carbon farming, regional manufacturing, and public education.We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive.

Guidance on a personal embroidery project, for students with some knowledge of embroidery stitches

Join us at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station, CA, where we will receive guidance on our embroidery project from artist Arwyn Moonrise.In this workshop we will focus on personal projects. You can bring any type of embroidery project, in any stage that you would like to work on. There will be space for each student to get assistance in troubleshooting, design, best stitch to use for desired look, help with stitches, and any other questions that come up while creating. This workshop is for folks that have at least a basic knowledge of embroidery stitches and want project guidance. It’s always the most fun day of stitching!You will bring your own project and supplies, but there will also be plenty of extra cloth, thread, needles, etc. in case you need them.M﻿aximum 15 students.Please b﻿ring: <ul><li>personal embroidery project and supplies</li><li>personal snacks, lunch and beverages (a selection of teas will be served on site). W﻿e are in a rural location, so most people bring their lunch rather than drive to town.</li></ul>A﻿rwyn is also teaching a Beginning Embroidery workshop at the Fibershed Learning Center on April 30th. Arwyn Moonrise is an embroidery artist with a natural gift for teaching the craft in a fun and practical manner. She learned to embroider during her childhood watching her mother mend and adorn the families clothing on their organic blueberry farm in rural Maine, and reconnected with stitching later in life. Fueled by her passion for creating, recognizing the power of bespoke sacred garments, and wanting to help reduce fashion waste by giving vintage/used clothing new life, she started her custom embroidery business, Township 31 (named after the township in Maine she grew up in).Arwyn creates one-of-a-kind custom pieces for her clients as a way to create sacred adornment through the art of prayer and storytelling. Her work is executed with technical precision and intricacy. She has been teaching embroidery for the last 10 years all over the Bay Area and truly believes that EVERYONE can tell story and create beauty through stitching.

If you cancel after 30 days before the event, we are unable to provide refunds unless we can fill your space from the waitlist. Each contribution entitles you to choose one item of comparable value.You may depart up to an hour after the workshop ends, to allow time to browse and try on items in the closet, and make your trade!
