Mix It Up 4: Cultural Safety with Trans and Gender Non-Conforming Patients

Texas AHEC East – Waco Region is committed to improving the health of rural and underserved communities in its 18 covered counties. We work with the community and community partners to bridge the gap in care among the underserved through health education and collaborating with the local health workforce.  Our primary partner is Waco Family Medicine, who assists us in providing clinical training for students in nursing, social work, and physician assistant programs. Our goal is to engage the community by facilitating exceptional learning opportunities for students while also promoting health careers within the Waco community.

You are invited to the fourth seminar in Texas AHEC East - Waco Region's signature speaker series on intersectional healthcare.

Join us for the final installment in our Mix It Up series! AHEC Scholars and attendees will have the opportunity to chat with an experienced clinician. Ronica Mukerjee has experience serving the trans and gender non-conforming population in multiple modalities, including telehealth. They will cover several case studies and scenarios to give practical, actionable advice on ways to treat trans patients in a way that values their cultural safety. Speaker bio:Ronica Mukerjee is a family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and acupuncturist. They are currently an assistant professor at Columbia University. Dr Mukerjee is passionate about border-police-prison abolition as well as racial, economic and health care justice in LGBTQIA+, refugees and migrant communities, for people with substance use disorders, and for people living with HIV. She is the creator and former coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Health Justice concentration at Yale School of Nursing. Dr. Mukerjee is senior editor of the textbook: Clinicians Guide to LGBTQIA+ Care: Cultural Safety and Social Justice in Primary, Sexual, and Reproductive Healthcare, published in February 2021.Acknowledgement: Pyxis Partners is funded by the Division of Engagement and Outreach, All of Us Research Program, National Institutes of Health, Award Number: OD028404
