North American British Music Studies Association (NABMSA)

Dr Paul Rodmell will speak on French Music in Britain on 2 March at noon Central Time (6pm British time)

D﻿r Paul Rodmell is Senior Lecturer in the Music Department of Birmingham University. His research focuses on music and musical culture in the United Kingdom from the mid-nineteenth century until the end of the First World War. He has written on Britain&#x27;s operatic culture between 1875 and 1918 and also holds interests in Anglican church music and culture of the late nineteenth century, and various aspects of art music in Ireland. As such, his first book studied the life and works of Charles Villiers Stanford (Ashgate, 2002). His most recent book, French Music in Britain 1830-1914, was brought out in 2020 through the Routledge series on Music in Nineteenth-Century Britain and is one of the first books of its kind on French influence in British musical culture and composition.
