The Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit classical music orchestra. We are amateur and professional musicians who perform free concerts throughout the greater Jacksonville community.

North Florida School of Special Education

An exciting event from the Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville! Featuring music of many different tempos and textures, this Sensory Sensitivity concert will be hosted by North Florida School of Special Education in the Dorothy and Lee Thomas Equestrian Barn at the Delores Barr Weaver Therapeutic Equestrian Center. This sensory sensitivity concert is for students of all abilities that may find it difficult to sit quietly during a concert. In fact, dancing and giggling is encouraged! The barn provides a large open space, allowing for anyone who might want to move around or dance the opportunity to do so. Thank you Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville, this is community building! #IAmConnectable #IDD #SensorySensitivity Among the pieces to be performed is “Ollie the Alligator,” by Jacksonville composer Anne McKennon.Guests of the one-hour concert will be encouraged to interact with the music through movement, and silence is not required. Activities during the concert will include bubbles, a parachute and fabric strips. There will be designated “safe spaces” for guests who need to take a break from activities.We have 350 chairs, but to guarantee a seat, we encourage picnic blankets and portable chairs when possible
