Hello Again: Ancestral Practices for Grieving

Grief due to the death of a loved one is a universal human experience, but it does not need to be the end of our relationship with them.

G﻿rief is often described as an emotion, but in reality it is more than that. It is a state of being which is overflowing with sadness, despair, anger, loss, and numbness. Most of all, grief can feel all-consuming. I understand grief as love attempting to be expressed in the presence of and through tremendous sadness, despair, anger, and loss, which can often feel or appear like an impossibility. I do not believe grief is something that just ends or that we get past. I believe the goal is to learn how to live alongside the grief (as difficult as it may be), acknowledging it when needed, but not feeling compelled to be at its mercy. It is my experience that a consistent and intentional ancestral practice can be a powerful tool that grants the capacity to live with grief and not be annihilated by it.A﻿t the heart of ancestral practices and veneration is the knowledge and belief that death does not mean a permanent and complete separation from those we love. It does, indeed, mean we are no longer in physical contact with them, but that their core, their essence, their spirit exists in a place or plane of existence that we actually have access to. In short, ancestral practice is a form of relationship building and maintaining with those who have preceded us in death. Developing an ancestral relationship with someone we are grieving is a potent balm that can bridge the chasm of physical loss and which allows us to connect in meaningful ways.T﻿o attend this workshop does not require you to have a rock solid belief in the afterlife, or to have all or even most of the answers about what happens after physical death. I do ask that you are at least sincerely open to the possibility that there is an existence after physical death and that those still living an earthly reality can connect to that place. No matter where you are on your journey with grief, whether it is recent or longstanding, I invite you to come learn and explore the healing possibilities of ancestral practice.This workshop is a part of the monthly Soul Support Life Coaching workshop series. Each workshop every month supports The Soul Support Access Fund, a scholarship fund that allows Soul Support Life Coaching to provide individual coaching to everyone who wants and needs it, regardless of economic circumstances.
