In the face of growing planetary and civilizational challenges that require letting go of the unsustainable ways of the past, humanity’s most urgent task is to embrace and renew our capacities for self-creation, moral imagination and above all, wisdom. Artificial Intelligence too has a vital role to play in that task – if we have the courage to reclaim, rethink, and rebuild these technologies in the name of more humane futures.Professor Vallor will address the latest developments in AI and what it means for us and our future.Shannon Vallor is a philosopher of technology and the Baillie Gifford Chair in the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) at the University of Edinburgh. Professor Vallor&#x27;s research explores how new technologies, especially AI, robotics, and data science, reshape human moral character, habits, and practices. Her work includes advising policymakers and industry on the ethical design and use of AI. She is a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute, and currently chairs Scotland&#x27;s Data Delivery Group. Professor Vallor received the 2015 World Technology Award in Ethics from the World Technology Network. She is a former Visiting Research Scientist and AI Ethicist at Google. In addition to her many articles and published educational modules on the ethics of data, robotics, and artificial intelligence, she is the author of the book Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting (Oxford University Press, 2016) and the forthcoming Lessons from the AI Mirror: Rebuilding Our Humanity in an Age of Machine Thinking.Don&#x27;t miss out!
