Join local scholar, artist, and poet Clark Lunberry for a conversation about Don’t Blame it on ZEN: The Way of John Cage & Friends.

Ideas of Our Time is a lecture series providing a forum for creative dialogue with artists, educators, and others around some of the most vital and important art and ideas of our time.  This month&#x27;s lecture will be led by local scholar, artist, and poet Clark Lunberry who will speak about <a href="https://mocajacksonville.unf.edu/exhibitions/Featured/Don-t-Blame-It-on-ZEN--The-Way-of-John-Cage---Friends/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Don&#x27;t Blame It On Zen: The Way of John Cage &amp; Friends</a>. The lecture will be preceded by a quartet of students from the UNF Percussion program who will perform John Cage&#x27;s Third Construction.A leading voice of the post-war avant-garde, John Cage (1912-1992) was a composer, philosopher, poet, visual artist, amateur mycologist, and longtime Buddhist devotee, whose enormous influence throughout the arts cannot be overstated. This interactive and multidisciplinary exhibition explores Cage&#x27;s work and legacy, featuring works by artists that both knew and worked with him, as well as younger artists who in different ways have followed his footsteps, such as Maria Chavez, Philip Corner, Andrew Deutsch, Ann Hamilton, Christian Marclay, Aki Onda, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, and Robert Rauschenberg, among many others. A﻿BOUT CLARK LUNBERRYClark Lunberry is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of North Florida. Along with ​his interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching, Lunberry creates site-specific “writing on water |writing on air” art and poetry installations, placing large-scale poems on water and windows.
