We are a national non-profit organization with the mission to provide enriching opportunities for mid-career Black and African descent artists to achieve economically sustainable careers in the entertainment industry.Our manifesto is: Community not Charity. This statement embodies our goal to empower our members to see themselves as the architects or "Makers" of their own destinies, whether that be in the mainstream Hollywood system, or going the independent route.  You don’t need permission to be a #Maker. It’s a mindset. By bringing together a Community of Makers who operate with a collective mindset, our power is infinite. Our programming lives the ethos that if you give a person an airline ticket, they will fly for a day. But if you teach them how to fly by developing deeper craft, skills, richer connections and facilitate their ability to stack credits, they will create an enriching career that soars for a lifetime.We offer programming in three key areas: Networking - Craft Development - Thought Leadership that both virtual and IRL. In this three-part Masterclass, we're focusing our lens on development, grants, and pitches!

This edition, facilitated by Producer/Executive Producer <a href="https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0717932/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Heidi Reinberg</a> is a three-part masterclass! Schedule<ul><li>PITCHES - Wednesday, February 1st (rescheduled)</li></ul>W﻿e&#x27;re building on the previous workshop sessions on Development and Grant-Writing, this final session will give previous participants and new ones a chance to workshop their pitches, as well as answering those burning existential questions such as: What do I need to have in place before I pitch? What&#x27;s the difference between pitching someone at a pitch forum and pitching someone at a bar? And for pete&#x27;s sake, How do I build a relationship with industry execs via e-mail without annoying the hell out of them? This three-part workshop will cover: <ul><li>What elements do you need to put together to approach a broadcaster/streamer? A film funder? Someone who wants to invest in your film?</li><li>What does a well-developed project look like?</li><li>What exactly are grant-makers looking for — or at? — when they review your proposal?</li><li>How does a written proposal differ from a verbal pitch?</li></ul>Heidi ReinbergWith nearly two decades of hands-on experience as a documentary producer (and now as a consulting producer and grants-panel reviewer), <a href="https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0717932/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Heidi Reinberg</a> learned pretty much everything she knows about &quot;the business of the business&quot; on the job — including developing compelling nonfiction projects and turning them into award-winning pitches and effective grant proposals. Now she is on a mission to impart this &quot;real talk&quot; (and at least a soupçon of wisdom) to as many aspiring/emerging producers as possible with a goal toward getting to &quot;Count us in!&quot; instead of the dreaded &quot;Come back when you have a rough cut.&quot; Deep Focus Deep Focus is a workshop series centered on filmmaking from acting to cinematography and distribution. In these exclusive workshops, experts teach hands-on techniques coupled with a segment for Q &amp; A and workbooks as takeaways.
