Join us for a water meditation led by artist Faith Johnson as part of our current Community Curator exhibition, <a href="https://www.somervillemuseum.org/waterlines" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Waterlines: Stories of Ebb and Flow</a> curated by Arlinda Shtuni. ADMISSION: $5*/person; Somerville Museum active members free (with code MEMBER); no charge for children under 12 years old. Admission to this event also includes exhibition admission.RSVP: Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Space is limited. ACCESSIBILITY: The Museum is now ADA compliant with an elevator entrance on ground level on Westwood Road. SCHEDULE: This meditation will begin promptly at 11:30am and last about 20 minutes. Admission also includes exhibition admission. Other water meditations are scheduled for Saturday, February 11 at 11:30am and Wednesday, March 22 as part of the World Water Day event and closing reception. *All proceeds help support exhibitions, programs, and the operations of the Museum. The Somerville Museum is a private non-profit, mostly volunteer-run organization. _____________________About Artist Faith Johnson: Faith Johnson received an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts through Tufts University, where she was awarded the Rose Hill Performance Award and a Teaching Fellowship in performance art. Johnson’s work has shown in galleries and festivals throughout the United States and abroad, including the Open Festival in China, Navinki Festival in Belarus, and the Tactile Bosch Gallery in Wales, England. She has also been a visiting artist and lecturer at Lesley University, Oklahoma University, and the University of Northern Iowa. Johnson has completed residencies at the Homestead Artist Residency in Willow, Alaska and the Newton School of Theology where she researched spiritual forms and gestures. She has taught art making in schools, museums, afterschool programs, community centers, and through her community arts project Full Circle Arts where she facilitates well-being and connection through creative processes. Every important passage of our lives is touched by water. However, as urban dwellers, we often have an abstract connection to it, as invisible infrastructures and complex systems of water lines bring it to us. How has our need for water shaped the city over time? And as our cities densify and water cycles change, how can we envision the future? How will we navigate droughts and floods, learn to adapt to our changing environment, and move in new ways?<a href="https://www.somervillemuseum.org/waterlines" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Waterlines</a> showcases Dialogues with Water, a site-specific installation of soundscapes and sound acousmatic works by a group of Northeastern University music students guided by Pr. Hubert Ho. From inviting us to follow the journey of underground water rise to the surface, to letting us meditate near calm waters, and thrusting us into a storm, these aesthetically eclectic pieces respond to the exhibit in myriad ways.
