Join us once a month and enjoy the evening watching our local creators share their short films. Network with other creatives and enjoy our Q&A panel with the filmmakers.

What's good FilmGatos!This month, we will be accepting any genre! This is what we call our Free-for-all!Come celebrate our local creators in an amazing night of imagination and inspiration.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ABOUT USFilmGate Miami is a non-profit organization that's goal is to ensure the empowerment and growth of local creators and talent. Providing them with a platform in which they can showcase their art, reaching new audiences locally and internationally.FilmGate Short Film Festival is a monthly film festival that has a different per month. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------RULES:<ul><li>Only Florida directors and works filmed in Florida can submit.</li><li>For submissions: <a href="https://filmfreeway.com/FilmGateShortFilmFestival" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://filmfreeway.com/FilmGateShortFilmFestival</a></li><li>Length of the film must be 15 minutes or less.</li><li>Those accepted must be able to represent their film, failure to do so will remove you from competition.(Must be in person).</li></ul>---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPCOMING FILMS Jaded (Directed by Shianne Leigh Salazar) - Zanna Hart's 22nd birthday is not going the way envisioned it would. Instead of spending the day with her beloved boyfriend Jade , Zanna is forced to face her painful past in order to build a future with the help of her mother Mona.Santi (Directed by Dani Orlando) - Mulling through his usual routines, Santi suddenly begins reminiscing about his life thanks to a simple crossword puzzle.Don't Wake Me Up (Directed by Carlos Vargas) - A story about missed opportunities when a father and son struggle to connect until an unfortunate tragic event reconnects their differences.Hustle Money (Directed by Sebastian Brito) - Gabriel, a collegiate track and field sprinter, is escaping external pressures from a coach, agent, and photographer as he sprints for the finish line.The Bay Project (Directed by Valeria Galvan) - A short documentary that unravels the mysterious phenomenon of mass marine life deaths in Miami's waters, as residents grapple with the urgent need to find answers and protect their bay and tourism economy from an impending crisis.Superposition (Directed by TL Westgate) - Superposition: a temporal anomaly in which two paradoxical eventualities co-exist. In other words, time is relative.A Modeled Woman (Directed by Jingwen Zhao) - At the climax of the COVID pandemic, a young Asian-American has hit a breaking point, and finds herself exploring therapeutic options to help her cope.MEET THE JURORSMelissa Harmon - As Principal Director of Content at South Florida PBS, Melissa Harmon believes in the power of public media to educate, entertain, and engage with our neighbors, both near and far. She has been pro-PBS since welcoming friends Ernie, Burt, Grover, and Kermit into her childhood living room. Her career in public media began with a temporary writing gig turned 18 year producing run at PBS’ Nightly Business Report. In her current role at South Florida PBS, Melissa’s focus is helping her team of producers, videographers, editors, and digital content specialists tell rich and diverse stories about “the people in our neighborhood.” From compelling arts coverage to innovative kids programming and cutting-edge Next Gen content, she oversees a dozen original SFPBS productions including Art Loft, On the Town in the Palm Beaches, Changing Seas, film-maker, KidVision Mission, and Your South Florida, as well as several co-productions each year with local filmmakers. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Florida International University in 1997. Career highlights include a National Press Foundation Fellowship (2001), an Emmy award (2017), and the 2018 Silver Circle award from the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts &amp; Sciences celebrating 25 years in broadcasting.Alex Cohen - Alex Cohen is the founder and CEO of Synkronized, a 23 years old US and Global Content Distributor and Production Company. With over 300 Films &amp; Series produced and distributed in the US and worldwide. A library of more than 150 Festival nominations including the Cannes Film Festival, and 52 Awards and counting. Cohen's films have been released in partnership with companies like Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate, and many more. Cohen notably produced Jenna Otega's "Saving Flora" in 2018, Naomie Watts and Octavia Spencer's "Luce", a 2019 Sundance finalist, "Stay Safe" in 2022, and "ODB: Wu-Tang Forever", an upcoming 2023 Series, among dozens of other Productions.Julian Martin - Julian is a multi-talented filmmaker, art director, and designer, but above all, he is a dedicated storyteller. With meticulous attention to detail and a passion for crafting clear narrative journeys, Julian brings imagination, integrity, and a commitment to craftsmanship to his work. His creations have been featured in prestigious international design publications, and his love for typography shines through in his custom typeface designs. Julian's diverse skill set and original thinking make him a sought-after creative professional for national and international clients alike. He is currently Partner and Creative Director at Lemon Yellow, a creative communications studio in Miami, Florida. Andres Irias - Andres is a Latino Filmmaker based in Miami, FL who has directed multiple award-winning short films. Of his latest short films: Reverie was broadcasted on PBS, Perception was distributed via Amazon Prime Video, Synchronic was distributed to Latin American streamer Piccen &amp; broadcasted on PBS, &amp; Rememory was distributed to Piccen. Former Kodak Brand Ambassador &amp; Programmer to the Miami Independent Film Festival. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FILM COMMUNITY NETWORKER B4 AND AFTEREnjoy meeting other creatives and film geeks during our film community networker before the screening. Grab some drinks, some grub, and start mingling! We will also have networking at the end of the event so feel free to gush about the cool films afterwards too.PERCOLATOR Starting off the night, we have our Percolator. Sign up and tell the audience your skills or if you are looking for a professional in particular! You will have 1 minute to pitch.FILMMAKER Q &amp; AAfter the screening, as our jury judges discuss the night's award-winning film, we will invite our featured filmmakers for a Q&A session about their creative process and inspiritations in creating their films.AWARDS CEREMONYAt the end of the screening, we will present the jury's choice in the best film of the night!
