It is informal.Q. What do I wear? A. It is informal. Be comfortable. Q: Is it a ‘proper’ academic conference? A: If you are there and you are an academic, then yes.Q: Does it carry the same gravitas as other academic conferences? A: We leave role, rank and ego at the door. We believe it is the people and the work that make the event worthy and impactful.Q: I am not an academic, can I come? The LSRN has a long rich history (25 years) of being a space that is a connector of HE and FE. You may well be in FE and define yourself as an academic. You may be in HE and call yourself a lecturer. If your interests lie in further education as a practitioner or an academic or researcher or educator (I could go on) then yes, this is for you.Q: I have never presented before but I want to. A: Get in touch and we will support you.Q: We are an edu organisation and would like to support this or be part of this. A: Well, hello. A: Yes.Q: I don’t ‘do’ research, is it for me? A: You do not have to be a researcher. This conference has the theme of ‘the uses of research’. Some participants may well be researching, some may have been working on the application of someone’s research in their own classroom – and they may not even call it that. Some may be engaged in ‘enquiry’ or ‘supported experiments’. Some are just interested to know more.Q: LSRN? Who? A: Have a read.Q: Who is organising this conference? A: The conference organisers are four of the LSRN convenors. They include a mix of university, sixth form college, general FE college and phd candidates. They are Jo Fletcher Saxon, Dr Rachel Terry, Layla Pearce and Kirsty Tate of LSRN with a supporting cast of regional convenors and friends.
