THE COMMUNITY TABLE is an “Evening Against Hunger”. The special dinner is a community collaboration between chefs, <a href="https://uptowngigharbor.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Uptown Gig Harbor</a>, and the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation.1 night, 3 chefs, and 100 guests will join to help raise critical funds to support area programs working to ensure the food needs of our community are met, especially between June and November when need is at its greatest.The evening will include a three course dinner, prepared by three area chefs, including Erik Smith of the <a href="https://www.greenhousegigharbor.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Green.House</a>Lora Smythe-DuBois of <a href="https://www.legarmache.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lora’s LeGarmache Catering</a>, Chris Olsen of <a href="https://fondi.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Fondi Pizzeria</a>, and <a href="https://www.t47.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Table47's</a> Pastry Chef, replete with contemporary soul sounds from <a href="https://www.tarachugh.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tara Anne Chugh</a>, bringing a soulful twist to classics by the likes of Sinatra, Etta James, Adele, John Legend and more. Guests will also receive a hand-thrown ceramic cup by local potter Jess Almeida to take home as a “thank you” gift.Locally sourced ingredients will be transformed into a epicurean experience bringing awareness to hunger in our community, the core of the evening’s benefit. Every dollar raised through The Community Table equals about 5 pounds of food that will help stock the shelves of our local food banks for nearly 6 months – those months when need is at its greatest (late Spring through early Fall). The Cause. The Beneficiaries. Many do not realize the level of disparity in our community - hunger is a significant issue. An average of 30% of youth enrolled in our schools (about 1 in 4) come from families who meet federal criteria for free or reduced lunch programs. For many, these are the only meals they receive with any regularity. And, 1 in 7 adults, and 1 in 6 seniors, across our community struggle with hunger. Across all age groups, nearly 25% of our population live in households that struggle against food insecurity, or lack of access to an affordable, nutritious diet – more than double the national average! Since 2013, GGHF has provided more than 117 tons of food and funding, totaling more than $1-million in support, to area organizations working to eliminate food insecurity.
