“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior, and my God.” ~ Psalm 42:11
Mental health is an extremely important topic that we all need to be familiar with (and comfortable talking about), as every year 1 in 4 American adults experiences a diagnosable mental disorder. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in our country. That means there are many in the Body of Christ struggling with a broken heart for one reason or another, too. And suffering from a mental health issue does not make you less of a Christian, or less than a person. In fact, nobody is “less than” if they have any type of mental illness, because we were ALL created in God’s Image! It is crucial that as Believers, we do not judge, belittle, or condemn those dealing with mental illness, but rather, show kindness, patience, and love to our brothers and sisters in need.
In honor of May's Mental Health Awareness month, on 5/2, Suzette Parker and Sarah Voltmann Costello will share their experiences and expertise on this subject, imparting words of wisdom and advice. In addition, Katie Mathews has agreed to come back to share her powerful testimony that we missed in April - can't wait!!
