About this event

Melanin & MagiQ is an identity-based group for QTBIPOC youth, ages 13-20, that was founded by Time Out Youth. Affectionately known as M & M, this discussion group focuses on joys and challenges of life at the intersection of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. This group is exclusively for QTBIPOC youth and creates a brave space for youth living at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities. Melanin & MagiQ is held on the fourth Wednesday of the of the month from 7-9 pm at Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center located at 121 N. Greene St. GSO, NC 27401. Join us for our first meeting on Wednesday, September 27th, 6-8 pm.


Meet your facilitators, Mr. Christian Moorer and Dr. Dara Nix-Stevenson. Christian is a creative professional that prides himself on designing innovative and equitable solutions to today’s problems. A native of Charleston, SC, Christian transitioned to North Carolina to attend North Carolina A&T State University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a Pre-Law Concentration. Christian is passionate about helping others reach their highest potential. He has worked previously with the NC State University College Advising Corps, assisting students in rural NC access post-secondary education opportunities. He then served as the Program Coordinator for the LGBTA Resource Center at North Carolina A&T State University, providing inclusive and impactful programming, resources, and training to LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff and allies. Currently, Christian is a Career Navigator for GuilfordWorks, helping Guilford County residents eliminate barriers to employment. Christian has a passion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and enjoys working with individuals to inspire and help them design their future while embracing their true selves. Dara Nix-Stevenson, Ph.D. (she/they) is a Program Manager|Curriculum Specialist| Social Justice Educator with over twenty years of middle and high school classroom experience. She strives to build learning environments guided by the ethos of restorative justice and foster learning as expressed by bell hooks, “But learning is a place where paradise can be created. The classroom with all of its limitations, remains a location of possibility.” Dr. Nix received her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from UNC-Greensboro with a concentration in Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. Primarily interested in racial, gender, and environmental justice, her research focuses on environmental displacement, identity, resilience, and planetary citizenship. She currently works as Program Manager of Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ+ Center.
