About this event

Join us for the 4th Annual Pikes Peak Bigfoot benefit hike for 'Friends of the Peak' 501(c)!

This is a laid-back, go-as-you-please event that entails a search by registered hikers for the mighty and semi-accessible (?) Pikes Peak Bigfoot. The hunt will take place on the north side of Pikes Peak, on the outskirts of the town Green Mountain Falls, in the foothills (Bratton-Dewey trail), infamously known to have sightings of the smelly beast. Think of this as geocaching and Where’s Waldo, with a hairy twist. Pre-registered participants will get a chance to win $600 worth of local non-cringy merch!

The loot is as follows: 1st prize, $250 worth of local merch; 2nd, $150 of local merch; 3rd, $100 of local merch. Raffle afterward for more prizes! All hike-and-hunt registrations include a grab bag of goodies from local merchants of the Pikes Peak region.

There will also be orange pinecones along the trail for the 12 & under crowd for additional prizes.

TBD - I have some other ideas of things to search for up my hairy sleeve. More to follow on FB.

Ah schucks, you weren’t one of the first three on the trail to find him that day? That’s okay. Bring your registration stub to the post-hunt drawing for more prizes. You must be present to win. Registration filled up? You can still join us at the post-hunt festivities at the Green Box farm stand (next to the Pantry) to talk trail with the local trail stewards FOTP & FOUPT.

*100% of registration fees goes directly to 'Friends of the Peak' 501C(3) nonprofit.

GUIDELINES FOR HUNTING BIGFOOT

Parking and packet pickup the day of the event is at Joyland Church parking area between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

After a short walk up Belvedere Road to the Catamount trailhead, the hunt begins on the Bratton trail (maps provided at Packet pickup). This is a laid-back hunt and begins at 8:00 a.m.-ish. Being the first one out there will NOT guarantee you seeing him. Show up when you can and you’ll still have the same chance as everyone else. For the hardy, make a loop out of it! But please plan accordingly to get back to your starting point by 11:00 a.m., as our staff will need to verify/check out that you’ve returned in good order.

Bigfoot WILL be within eyesight of the designated trail that he (and you) are hanging out on and will be, for the most part, accessible. (You will NOT need to deviate from designated trails, use social trails, break trail, and subsequently get lost trying to find him!)

If and when you do spot him, you will NOT need to scramble over boulders, climb trees, or risk life and limb to reach him. You will need to show him your registration stub to claim your prize (ONE per GROUP though) for later that day.

Leave-No-Trace rules are always in effect on HGMFF land. Camping and bikes are NOT allowed. Please do your part to keep this beautiful area majestic during this hunt. If you see Bigfoot AFTER first-, second-, and third-place prizes have already been claimed, that’s okay. Save your stub for the post-hunt raffle at the Green Box farm stand.

This is a “go as you please” event. You will be responsible for your own food, water, and gear. Carry your own first-aid kit, navigation, and miscellaneous essentials, just like for any other personal outing on the trails. You are responsible for your own well-being. Maximum number of registered participants will be 100.

Our focus on this event is make this a no-frills fundraiser. No fancy aid stations, crappy music blaring, or $700 inflatables. This thought process keeps costs low. And where the sponsors and registered hikers get the most bang out of their buck, affordable fun and subsequently more capital goes to FOTP...and kept in your wallet also!

Since you are already in GMF for the morning, just spend the rest of the day there! Check out the trails of Red Butte or the Skyspace of Green Box Arts. Hang out at the lake. Have a cold one at the Blue Moose. Whatever. Point is, relax. Green Mountain Falls is perfect to just chill out. See ya' then!

Frequently asked questions

All the way in the "mountains"? How far away from downtown Colorado Springs is Green Mountain Falls?

20 minutes. Shorter than a drive on Powers Blvd.

Can Bigfoot be coaxed out of hiding?

Absolutely not! Pikes Peak Bigfoot can not be swindled, bribed, lured, or enticed by humans, who are frail, wimpy, and beneath him. But a promise of a cold one after the fact may work if it's hot enough outside.

Does Pikes Peak Bigfoot smell bad?

Maybe? If you don't like it, rub fresh pine needles under your nose and you'll be fine.

Is PP Bigfoot (and his cousins w/ Pikes Peak America's Mountain) better than Durango's Bigfoot?

Pfffft, 4-sure. That boujee buttercup of a Bigfoot wouldn't last 5K in a trail race against the far smarter, leaner, generally tougher Pikes Peak Bigfoot. That's right, Durango. My offer from 2023 still stands.

Do you have any actual helpful info in this section?

Pffffft. No. If you've made it this far, you'll probably actually read my very informative information within the goodie bag at packet pickup. The person who can answer best a pop quiz from me on that packet at the post-hike festivities will get a free Sasquatch cookie.
