FPAA and its members help to ensure North America's uninterrupted access to fresh, high-quality, healthy and delicious Mexican-grown fruits and vegetables.In 1905, the first rail car carrying fresh produce from Mexico crossed the border at Nogales, Arizona. Today, Mexico has become the top supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables for the United States - and the FPAA is the leading agent of produce trade at the U.S.-Mexico border and across the country.Founded in Nogales, Arizona, in 1944, the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas has grown to become one of the most influential agricultural groups in the United States.Today, the FPAA provides a powerful voice for improvement and sustainability, serving the needs of more than 100 North American companies involved in the growth, harvest, marketing, import, and distribution of Mexican produce.Our efforts, combined with the support of our members, yield positive results. We initiated and support major changes that benefit the industry of produce trade across the Mexican border.

Avocados contribute $11 billion in US economic impact, according to Texas A&M, and imported Mexican tomatoes contribute about $5 billion to the US economy, according to the University of Arizona.Speaker: Dr. Gary Williams, Emeritus Professor, Agribusiness Food and Consumer Economics Research Center, Texas A&M University; Georgina Felix, Director of Operations and Foreign Affairs of the FPAA.Moderated by: Rod Sbragia, Vice President of Sales for Crown Jewels. 10:45 – 11:00 am: Coffee Break11:00 am – 11:30 pm: Strategies to Reduce Transit Times for Fresh Produce – Importers face numerous challenges in getting their produce shipments to the border in a timely manner. Sometimes, such as in the case of the Querobabi military checkpoint in Sonora, trucks line up for miles, costing the supply chain millions of dollars in efficiencies and delaying the importation of perishable fresh fruits and vegetables. How can industry work with regulators to improve or eliminate this bottleneck?Speaker: Lic. Margarita Velez, Sonora Economic Minister; Lic.
