Community Emergency Response Team is a free 20 hour disaster preparedness course offered by the San Jose Office of Emergency Management

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 20-hour all hazard training offered by the City of San Jose Office of Emergency (OEM) Department for San Jose residents. The training is designed for residents to protect themselves, their family, their neighbors, and their neighborhood in an emergency situation. During the training residents will learn: Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations and Triage, Light Search and Rescue, Team Organization, Disaster Psychology, Terrorism &amp; the Incident Command.Due to the pandemic, the CERT basic training is now being offered as a combination of a online training and a one-day hands-on in person skills training. The online ZOOM training will be a bi-weekly class from January 10 - February 4.<ul><li>Tuesday, January 10 	 6:30pm- 8:30pm </li><li>Thursday, January12 6:30pm- 8:30pm </li><li>Tuesday, January 17 	 6:30pm- 8:30pm </li><li>Thursday, January 19	 6:30pm- 8:30pm </li><li>Tuesday, January 24 	 6:30pm- 8:30pm</li><li>Thursday, January 26	 6:30pm- 8:30pm </li><li>Tuesday, January 31 6:30pm- 8:30pm</li><li>Saturday, February 4 	 9:00am – 4:00pm </li></ul>The in-person skills portion of the class is taught from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, February 4. Location will be TBD. IMPORTANT: You must be registered and receive an email confirmation to attend the classes. Attendance required on all days for certification. This class is open to anyone over the age of 18, but preference will be given to San Jose residents.COVID-19: The in-person skills portion of the class will be taught outdoors (rain or shine), in small groups, in a fashion that complies with all applicable public health orders. Individuals who are at high risk for COVID-19 due to pre-existing health conditions should not sign up for this class. If public health orders become more restrictive, the in-person skills portion of the class may need to be rescheduled or canceled.You will be sent a link after you register.
