Join us as we explore local wildlife and learn the importance of preserving their habitat.

St John Lutheran Church

This meeting will include education about our native wildlife and ways to identify them by sight, sound, and tracks. Learn where to hike this winter. W﻿e will talk about the conservation icons Smokey Bear &amp; Woodsy Owl and ways we can help conservation efforts.W﻿e will end the evening preparing posters of the characters to submit to the <a href="https://gardenclub.org/sites/default/files/2022-08/poster-contest-information.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">National Garden Clubs Smokey Bear &amp; Woodsy Owl Youth Poster Contest.</a>F﻿ind out more about our <a href="https://dariengardenclub.com/sprouts" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DGC Sprouts</a>N﻿OTES:A﻿ll children must be accompanied by an adult.W﻿e will be meeting in the basement at the church. P﻿lease register for each child in your family so we can plan ahead.

Woodsy Owl, America’s icon for the conservation of the environment, challenges children to “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land!” and to take an active role in caring for the land through recycling, reusing, and reducing waste, planting and caring for trees, using resources wisely, and not littering.

We will tell Smokey Bear's story and learn how Smokey Bear is recognized nationally and internationally as the symbol for wildfire prevention. The original Smokey Bear appeared in 1944. Smokey’s message, “Only you can prevent wildfires!”
