Classical Sound Room with Ian Scarfe

The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

<p>No tux, gown or hurt me shoes required. Enjoy beautiful classical music while grabbing a bite to eat and having a beer or glass of wine. Ian Scarfe is a virtuoso but also a charismatic presenter who makes this music accessible. Audiences will enjoy the uncharacteristically gentle Sonata in D Major, Op. 28 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the so-called &quot;Pastoral Sonata&quot; because of its bright and cheery themes that are reminiscent of folk dances. Scarfe will also embark on a tour of the Romantic era, with virtuoso works by Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin giving the Sound Room&#x27;s Baldwin Grand Piano a real workout. Selections from the 20th Century will include American composers Amy Beach and George Gershwin, as well as an encore performance of Samuel Barber&#x27;s &quot;Excursions, Op. 20&quot;, which Scarfe performed here during the early, live-streamed, months of the pandemic. </p><p>Scarfe is a natural fit for the Sound Room&#x27;s classical series -  Scarfe&#x27;s introductions, verbal program notes, if you will, are often the highlight of the evening, with music-lovers of all types able to relate to his stories and learn from his guided musical tours.</p>
