Youngsang Cho was born in Hwaseong, Gyeonggido, South Korea, in 1965. As the son of Hankyu Cho, the founder of KNF, he received KNF technology from him and has been practicing organic farming for 32 years. He graduated from Suwon High School and the Department of Chemistry at Ajou University, completed a master's degree in Horticulture at Chungnam National University, and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology at Jeonbuk National University.

Day 3: Hands on learning and application with Mike Whyte, Dujon Blondel and Major Warren; see bios below. Firebird Research Farm is formally named the Agricultural Experimentation Station of the District of Columbia and was established by the USDA to research and test techniques in urban agricultural that are consistent with sustainable practices. Agriculture and horticulture are usually associated with rural settings and large open spaces. Our farm focuses on adapting successful, highly efficient farming techniques to small urban spaces. Our hydroponic systems explore techniques to grow a wide variety of vegetables in nutrient enriched water rather than soil. This growing method can generate exceptionally high yields, and is no longer limited to only microgreens, but can be used for vegetable varieties including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and squash. The farm is managed using sustainable systems and methods that reduce strain on the environment. Our customized aquaponic systems allow us to raise fish and grow vegetables in a self-sustaining closed loop system where fish waste is used as plant fertilizer, while the water is filtered and recycled.Mike Whyte serves as the Assistant Farm Manager of UDC. Mike’s agricultural experience includes hydroponics, aquaponics, vertical agriculture, urban farm equipment manufacturing, native plant nursery management, and soil-based vegetable crop production. Mike is also a proud Firebird alumnus, having earned the Professional Science Master of Urban Agriculture.Dujon Blondel is the founder of Cultivating Classics and Green Glow Gardens LLC. Dujon has been practicing and teaching regenerative agriculture for 4+ years with most of his life spent in the soil, he grew up on his grandparents farm in Dominica. Dujon has been gathering skills to teach workshops and has implemented natural farming on cannabis in Northern California. He has spent time with Master Cho and his family in Hawaii when he took a workshop in 2020, he has worked with Chris Trump, Jason Reisland, Cheryl Mendiola, and Preston Smith. He has obtained multiple certifications in the methodology, practice, and education of KNF and JADAM. He is a certified Soil-Smith and has completed multiple classes under Chris Trump. He has worked alongside Preston Smith to create KNF intensives across the PNW and continues to cultivate those learning spaces on the East Coast. He weaves his understanding of energetic, vibration, microbial networking, and health into his work and brings a new perspective on what it is to tend to the soil. He is driven to make this information as accessible as possible and continues to infuse all he creates with the intention to heal our planet, our bodies and our minds.Major Warren Regenerative natural farmer with concentration on nutrient dense food, herbs, and plant medicine. I am Co-Owner of Foodie Delights. We cater and specialize in wellness products and services. Our mission is to address food insecurity in our underserved communities by educating and volunteering our time in community garden efforts all over the city of Washington, DC. At the moment I mostly urban farm at our home garden. Our goal is to acquire some land so we can homestead and scale up our farming where we'll continue our mission of service and education of sustainable regenerative natural farming.
