The Chocolate Nutcracker

The Chocolate Nutcrackeris an extravanganza of African diaspora dance and world culture based on the original Nutcracker ballet.   Norma Jean Barnes is Artistic Director with choreography by Aubrey Luttrell,   Marlon Silva, and guest artists.The Chocolate Nutcrackeris supported through a generous grant from The Heinz Endowments Small Arts Initiative. The Chocolate Nutcracker is a contemporary Nutcracker that celebrates world culture and highlights the talents of African-American artists.

The Pittsburgh Project

<p><strong>The Chocolate Nutcracker is an extravaganza of dance, music and theater  created and produced in Pittsburgh featuring an African-American cast of youth and adults.  Norma Jean Barnes is the choreographer/director along with choreography by Aubrey Luttrell, Toddja Thornhill, and Marlon Silva.  The project is possible through the support of New Sun Rising, and grants from PA Council on the Arts, and The Heinz Endowments Small Arts Initiative.   Audience members should wear a mask.  Cash ticket sales at the door.  The Chocolate Nutcracker hopes to build bridges, celebrate life and spread  joy through the arts!</strong></p>
