Art East West: "President's Invitation" U.S. Tour Art Salon

Away Inc.

In 2012, the school-themed play "President's Invitation", directed by Professor Xiaoping Lyu of Nanjing University College of Liberal Arts and written by the young playwright Fangyi Wen, debuted and ran for nearly 300 performances around the world. In August, Away Inc. invites its latest cast and crew  to North American theaters and to meet with the audience overseas.
Art East West: "President's Invitation" U.S. Tour Art Salon is a symposium presented by Away Inc., and  aims to provide a platform for people to communicate through Chinese culture based on the drama, "President's Invitation". We invite the director and playwright of this play, Xiaoping Lyu and Fangyi Wen, to present and discuss the background of their work. At the same time, Bo Hu, a film director and Drama producer, and Yi Zhu, a famous playwright from Nanjing University will also be joining the event as our honored guests. 
Drama as a new form of entertainment has been loved by the general public. Different from traditional forms of entertainment, theater has its own educational purpose. Audience would ponder on the meaning of life while they are enjoying the performance. "President’s Invitation" has won several professional prizes since its debut in 2012. The popularity of "President’s invitation" derives from its innovative way of depiction that reflects the reality. Our art salon invites several scholars to discuss the meaning and backstage story of the play. Away Inc. wants to create an opportunity for the audience to meet the artists and to learn more about the play.

2012年，由南京大学文学院教授吕效平执导、青年编剧温方伊创作的校史题材话剧《蒋公的面子》一经问世即走出校园、走向公众， 在全球各地巡演近300场。近期，百戏文化荣邀其最新班底走进北美剧场， 与海外的你相遇。
艺术东西：话剧《蒋公的面子》美国巡演艺术沙龙是Away Inc. 主办的一场艺术交流活动，旨在通过《蒋公的面子》为题搭建一个促进中国艺术文化推广交流的国际化平台。这次活动我们邀请了话剧《蒋公的面子》编剧和导演吕效平先生和温方伊女士为我们介绍和讲解更多戏剧背后的文化和知识，与此同时，我们也邀请了电影导演和戏剧制片人胡波女士、南大走出的留美注明编剧朱宜女士作为特邀贵宾参与我们的活动和交流。
近年来，话剧逐渐成为社会上的一种新形式娱乐方式并逐渐被群众所钟爱。不同于传统的大众娱乐，话剧具有一定的教育意义与文化启迪作用，观众在欣赏的同时也引发了对人生的思考。反应当代精神的话剧愈加收到观众的共鸣与喜爱。《蒋公的面子》自2012年诞生以来一路获得观众的好评并斩获多个业界专业奖， 这得益于其运用清新写意的方式来折射现实社会问题。本次沙龙活动邀请到国内外教授文人一起分享讨论话剧鉴赏和对戏剧的理解与感受。让观众进一步交流和了解话剧的精神与意义。

<H5>Playwright - Fangyi Wen</H5>
Female, born in November 1990 in Nanjing. WEN graduated from Nanjing University in 2013 with BA of Literature of Drama, Cinema and Television. She is currently the candidate for MFA of Theatrical Arts at Nanjing University. Her play “President’s Invitation”, created in 2012, has been awarded as the Best Script of “Zi Jin -Star of People’s Literature” Award in 2013.

Doctor of Theater Studies, Professor of School of Liberal Arts, Nanjing University. Doctoral Supervisor, Dean of the Department of “Theatrical and Cinematic Arts”, Vice Chairman of Jiangsu Theater Association, Chief Editor of the Journal of Theater and Cinema Critics.
Academic Works: “Ontology of Traditional Chinese Theater”, “Introduction to Theater Studies”, “A Criticism of the Contemporary Serious Drama in China”.
Theatrical Works: “Romeo or Othello”, “Experimental play: September 2011”, “The Event of ‘An Enemy of The People’”, “President’s Invitation”.

女，1990年11月生於南京。南京大学戏剧影视文学专业13届毕业生，现於南京大学戏剧专业攻读硕士学位。2012年创作话剧《蒋公的面子》，2013年获「紫金. 人民文学之星」文学奖特别文体（剧本）奖。
 
<H5>原创导演 吕效平</H5>
戏剧学博士，南京大学文学院教授，博士生导师，副院长，戏剧影视艺术系主任，江苏省戏剧家协会副主席。《戏剧与影视评论》杂誌主编。著有《戏曲本质论》《戏剧学研究导引》《对正剧的质疑》等理论、评论著作。舞台剧作品有：《罗密欧，还是奥瑟罗》《实验戏剧：二零一一年九月》《<人民公敌事件>事件》《蒋公的面子》等。
