Yule is a celebration of the light, midwinter, and the changing of season from the Old Crone back to the Maiden. It’s a celebration of the Sun and the return to longer days. Since the solstice is the shortest day of light through the year it’s a time to celebrate the returning of light. Candles and bonfires commonly being the traditional ways of giving homage to that light. It was traditionally celebrated by Germanic cultures before Christianity had its hay-day, it is celebrated over 12 days and is heralded by food, drink, present exchanges, ritual and decorating of trees. Does this sound familiar? Come join Samsara Temple as we welcome in this energy of change into our lives. Below outlines the events that will be held during our celebration:
What’s going to happen?
Official Yule Ritual
White Elephant Gift Exchange
Access to large/private play space
Good times, friends and paganism around a bonfire
- IMPORTANT! We are holding a mandatory group consent along with other group agreement settings prior to getting started with ritual and other activities at 5:15pm. Doors close at 5 and we will start immediately after. Any late arrivals will be sent away without a refund.
- Our white elephant gift exchange. White elephants are a fun way of laughing at all of the ridiculous things that people have brought to share with others. Everyone brings something silly to gift and we go through and exchange those gifts. Stealing gifts and getting to open new ones is half the fun! Bring a wrapped gift in order to participate, please keep the gift under $10.
- Our altar, as present at all of our events, is to represent the season and we will be performing our ritual right after sunset. The ritual will last for about 30-40 minutes. We will follow the ritual up by healing outside to ceremonially burn our intentions on the Yule Log and discuss anything that we want to bring with us into our lives.
