Education is an essential component of our mission. Keys to Me offers educational seminars to attorneys in the fall, offering certified CLEs, including the Ethics component; and to social work professionals in the spring, offering certified CE credits.

The conference “Keys to Decoding Coercive Control: Impacts on Families and Communities” will take place in Knoxville, TN on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 8:30am–4:30pm. Speakers include survivors and esteemed experts on coercive control to discuss approaches to counseling survivors of human trafficking, domestic abuse, and cultic involvement. The conference is free; however, registration is required. Registration opens on January 1, 2023. Participants range from area social workers and psychologists to insurance providers to criminal justice professionals and crisis responders.The conference is meant to educate professionals whose work supports our healthy communities—counselors, social workers, attorneys, law enforcement, educators, and clergy/church leaders—on the presence and influence of coercive control in our communities, and how to properly handle the aid of their victims. The event is sponsored by Keys to Me nonprofit organization in association with The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Social Work.Jackie Johnson, Doctor of Social Work, LCSW; Lorna Goldberg, LCSW, PsyA; Bill Goldberg, Master of Social Work; Ragan Schriver, Doctor of Psychology; and Debby Schriver, author of Whispering in the Daylight: The Children of Tony Alamo Christian Ministries and Their Journey to Freedom, and Founder and Executive Director of Keys to Me will each speak about coercive control and the ways it appears in our communities. The conference will feature a panel discussion of survivors in conversation about their experiences. The panel will be moderated by Debby Schriver and Ragan Schriver. A Message from Keys to Me:We’re so happy you’ll be joining us This Saturday!March 2, 2023We are so happy that you are participating in our March 4 conference, “Keys to Decoding Coercive Control: Impacts on Families and Communities.” The day promises to be motivating, thought-provoking, and enlightening. The variety of participants will provide opportunities to consider theme topics through different lenses, and I believe we will end the day with new insights and an even greater commitment to serving survivors of coercive abuse and building healthy communities.The event will be at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church at 2931 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. As you drive in, you&#x27;ll see the building is rounded. The front entrance is midway through the parking lot, at the midpoint of the curved building. Overflow parking is beyond the first lot. Upon entering, you will find our registration tables where you sign in, get your nametag, and registration packet. Registration begins at 8am. We ask that you refrain from using photography. We will have a staff member photographing the speakers, but not the panel of survivors. We also request that you be aware of the sensitive nature of our panel content. Some of the content may be upsetting, and due to the raw nature of emotional topics, language may be coarse. Trained counselors are part of the program and will be on site should any issues causing emotional distress arise.Dress is casual, and we are providing light breakfast pastries, fruit, and beverages in the morning. Boxed lunches will offer time for casual conversation and networking. If you haven’t indicated your dietary restrictions on your registration form, please let us know. Our day will conclude at 4:30 p.m. with a request for individuals to fill out the evaluation form, return their nametags, and sign out at the registration table in order to receive their CE credit certificate. Keys to Me is a new Knoxville-based non-profit. Joining with The University of Tennessee College of Social Work to offer an educational program for the community is an example of community outreach that Keys to Me will pursue regularly, as part of our mission. While concerns about the well-being of our children, families and communities perhaps have never been greater, education is the first step toward eliminating coercive abuse in our own neighborhoods.
