With the proper instruction, you can tackle many plaster problems on your own!Get the insider secrets of plaster repair from a true craftsman who has been working in this unique field since1985! Your Instructor: Starting with a highly-respected painting/plastering company in Chicago, Philip LaMachio later opened his own company, Estate Plaster in 1992 in Greensboro NC. Since then, Estate Plaster has repaired thousands of plaster homes of all shapes and sizes facing a wide variety of issues. There is very little that Philip hasn't seen or done when it comes to plaster repair. Philip is also the creator of The American School of Plaster Restoration. (ASPR)Objectives: This two and one-half day class is designed for the absolute beginner with the goal of equipping you with the basic knowledge of tools, materials and processes to tackle simple plaster repair projects around the home. Transportation &amp; Lodging:T﻿ransportation to and from the local Reidsville hotel/classroom/dinner will be provided by ASPR if needed* ((A local hotel will be available for discounted group rates...details to be sent in an information packet by email once signed up.)*﻿ Depending on your arrival or departure time if flying into PTI (Piedmont Triad International Airport), a car rental or Uber might be a better option.

General Schedule:Reception (Thursday):On Thursday evening, we meet for a two-hour wine and cheese reception on-site at the grand, historical Ashworth house in Reidsville NC. (A late 1800's mansion in the process of restoration and to eventually to become an amazing bed and breakfast!) At the reception, you will meet your other classmates and main instructor, Philip Lamachio. This is a time to get to know one another and learn about the unique situations, challenges and goals you face in regards to plaster repair projects.*(you are encouraged to email photos of the particular issues you may be facing in advance).Classroom (Friday): Friday morning qt 8:30 we will meet on-site, dressed ready for hands-on learning....(you MIGHT get a little messy, so dress accordingly). We will start with a brief introduction to common plaster repair issues and basic tools, materials and techniques. W﻿e will learn what products to use and learn to mix mud for small repairs. Next, we will start with the simplest repairs (nail holes/small blemishes). Lunch:After the morning session where everyone gets a chance to practice these beginner skills we will break for a working lunch. At this time we will watch a power-point with lots of photos of plaster issues building on the things we have learned so far.Friday afternoon's session will continue with more hands-on learning. We will learn how to best repair a simple stress crack and use plaster anchors and mesh tape. Dinner:Dinner is at 5 at a local restaurant where informal learning can continue. (Cost of dinner not included).Classroom (Saturday):Saturday morning we start with on-site examples of what NOT to do and learn how to address simple water-damage. Other demonstrations based upon particular students needs. Lunch:The working lunch continues with more photo examples of issues you may be confronted with and discussion of processes. Saturday afternoon we will do more hands-on learning focusing on tool skills, finishing up with a final Q and A and info on how to get additional help once you get back home! Results:Now you have the basic tools and knowledge to tackle common basic plaster issues. Confidence and skill level boosted!
