GWATFL Collaborative - Re-energize and  Restore! with Chiara Monticelli

Since 1965 GWATFL has been committed to providing professional development and advocacy opportunities for world language educators in the Greater Washington DC area and beyond.  We envision language professionals collaborating and advocating in the pursuit of developing passionate multicultural and multilingual global citizens.GWATFL organizes two conferences for World language teachers a year. One in the Fall (first week of November)  and one in the Spring (last week of April). GWATFL also offers live streaming events and workshops.

We meet to create connections, exchange ideas, gain from each other experience in a community where we can authentically share. We learn and lead BEST when we do it together!!!GWATFL MAP Outreach, Liaison, and Advocacy (OLA) for DCPS Initiative would like to bring together language educators from DCPS and beyond to share, co-create, and brainstorm ideas, initiatives, and opportunities for GWATFL to address the specific needs of DCPS language teachers. . BiographyChiara is an Italian mom, teacher, gourmand and self-care enthusiast. She has taught in the greater DC area since 2007, and landed at Hardy MS in 2012, after giving birth to her first child. Mothering and teaching in a foreign country put so much stress on her life that she was not prepared to handle, and she became ill. Once recovered, Chiara embarked on a journey of self discovery that encompasses every aspect of her life. The journey is still happening to this day. Chiara is a Selfcarefully™ certified expert, holds a Master of Science in Teaching Italian Language and Culture, a Master of Science in Education Program, and a Masters in Mediation and Conflict Resolution. She is also the recipient of multiple awards, including the DCPS 2021 World Language Teacher of the Year, and the Global Programs Copeland Award for Teacher of the Year in 2020."
