K﻿ristala Jones Prather is the Department Executive Officer of MIT Chemical Engineering with research interests in metabolic engineering, biochemical engineering, synthetic biology and bioprocess engineering. Using the cell’s “microbial chemical factory&quot;, Professor Kristala Prather is engineering microbes to produce chemical compounds to focus on three key areas: <ul><li>Biomedical &amp; biotechnology</li><li>Energy</li><li>Environment and sustainability </li></ul>About the Golden Speaker Series:The Technology Licensing Office is introducing the Golden Speaker Series, a two-day event (Jan. 18th and Jan. 20th) during MIT&#x27;s Independent Activities Period. The Golden Speaker Series will include talks and Q&amp;A sessions from prominent researchers of the MIT community about their journeys within the MIT research, startup, and technology transfer ecosystem.Other speakers on Jan. 18th include Muriel Medard, Hugh Herr, Marin Soljacic.
