Sea Pines Forest Preserve

December Explore Your Forest Preserve Program: Beginner Bird Walks

Thank you for your ticket reservation! See you at the event!

Join Master Naturalist Bob Speare for a leisurely walk through the Forest Preserve to see, hear, and learn about some of the birds who call this amazing property their home. From warblers, sparrows, and woodpeckers to hawks, eagles, herons and more, the varied habitats that make up the Forest Preserve attract an impressive number of birds throughout the year. In fact, a number of species come in just for the winter months to take advantage of the native seeds and berries that abound. And of course, the ponds provide a wealth of food for over-wintering ducks and other waterbirds too. This 90 minute walk is designed for beginning birders, but all levels of bird enthusiasts are welcome. We’ll meet at Fish Island and walk a loop on the trails covering a couple of miles through a variety of woodland, field, and pond-edge habitats. Dress for the weather and bring a pair of binoculars if you have them. We’ll have a couple of extra pairs on hand. There are two Beginner Bird Walks available. This event ticket page is for the 9:00 AM bird walk. The late morning walk will begin at 11:00 AM. To register for the 11:00 AM walk instead of the 9:00 AM walk, please click here For a map of the Forest Preserve click here.
