The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

Marcus Shelby Quintet Featuring Kennedy Shelby Aaron Smith (trumpet)Dillon Vado (vibraphone)Luis Peralta (piano/keyboards)Sylvia Cuenca (drums)Marcus Shelby (bass)Kennedy Shelby (vocals) Composer, bassist, educator, SF arts commissioner, artistic director of Healdsburg Jazz, and bandleader Marcus Shelby is honored to present a new quintet featuring Aaron Smith (trumpet), Dillon Vado (vibraphone), Luis Peralta (piano/keyboards), Sylvia Cuenca (drums), and introducing his daughter Kennedy Shelby (vocals). The new Marcus Shelby Quintet performs original and traditional compositions that celebrate and honor black lives past, present, and future. On December 16th live at the Sound Room in Oakland, CA, the Marcus Shelby Quintet will also perform holiday music from a diversity of cultures.
