Causes and Implications of the US-China Trade War

The Stanford Chinese Faculty & Family Club (SCFFC) is pleased to announce that our Quarterly Speaker Series for the Spring Quarter will feature Visiting Professor Heiwai Tang on the U.S.-China trade war.    You, your family, and your friends are cordially invited.  The discussion should be highly stimulating and educational.  We hope that you will join us. What:  Professor Tang, Associate Professor of International Economics at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies will give a talk entitled "Causes and Implications of the US-China Trade War", based on his recent empirical research about firms' stock market reactions to the recent announcements by both countries and his ongoing work on global value chains.  Professor Tan is a Research Fellow at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the Center of Economic Studies and Ifo Institute (CESIfo) in Germany, and the Globalization and Economic Policy Center in the U.K.  He has been a consultant to the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, United Nations, and Asian Development Band.  He held visiting positions at the IMF, MIT Sloan School of Management, Harvard University, RIETI, and currently at Stanford.  He is on the editorial boards of Journal of Comparative Economics and China Economic Review.  His research interests span a wide range of theoretical and empirical topics in international trade, with a specific focus on production networks and global value chains.
