耗時三年拍攝，以台灣近年餘燼復燃而遍地烽火的社運案件為背景，包括關廠工人案、鄭性澤案、洪仲丘案、以及三一八學運案，描述為正義發聲的人權律師──邱顯智、曾威凱、劉繼蔚、李宣毅──的故事。 
 
這些義務律師團成員出身農工或中產，透過繼受歐陸法律哲學之覺醒：康德的和平理論思想，卡繆的反抗者宣言，梭羅的公民不服從等等；並在一片司法改革的呼聲當中，回到對法律之所以存在的根本性思考與實踐。
 不僅限於對司法案件辯護的陳述，片子動人之處是帶出每一位律師的生長背景：什麼樣的環境可以練就堅強的心智，什麼樣的理想讓他們願意挺身而出？ 
在這樣一個仍有許多不公不義的時代裡，導演透過獨到的電影語彙描繪當代的俠士。
 
【關於講者】
蘇哲賢 導演
2010年首部電影作品《街舞狂潮》獲得第47屆金馬獎最佳紀錄片，該片同時獲得2010金馬獎最佳剪輯提名。蘇哲賢也是<A HREF="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%87%91%E9%A6%AC%E7%8D%8E" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="金馬獎" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">金馬獎</A>該獎項最年輕的得獎導演。該片並於台灣（2010年）及香港（2011年）兩地電影院線發行。2014年創作劇情短片《八月漫遊》以中國詩人北島作品為靈感，創作跨越台北與北京兩地的前衛作品，並為該年台灣新北市國際電影節開幕的導演專題放映。
作品風格原為細膩人文，歷經海外生活經驗後，轉為直接厚重的氣息，並且逐漸具有現代主義電影的傾向，探索電影語言。
