A free online social justice training series for movement teachers on working with and alongside the LGBT2QIA+ members in our communities

Dancing Grounds is happy to announce our second year of our Beyond the Studio (BTS): Social Justice Training Series for Movement Teachers!In our 2022-23 series, we will offer four trainings in creating inclusive and accessible movement classrooms with an intersectional lens of disability, gender and sexuality justice. Our training partners are Gregory Dorado and Carina Ho (Disability Justice/Integrated Dance) and Kattoris Bang (Discourse on Gender For Educators). While these trainings are designed for dance instructors, they can be applied to yoga, fitness, and other physical activities for all ages.All trainings will take place digitally over Zoom, and are free and open to any teaching artist that is interested in joining these offerings. March sessions will be focused on applied practice.Trainings are made possible with a grant from Degree and their Breaking Limits Programme. Participants will have the option to take additional online training modules produced by Degree and receive a $25 gift card for participation. An Intro Discourse on Gender for Educators with Kattoris Bang!A basic/introductory workshop on gender specifically for teachers and educators wanting to provide safer space in their classrooms for trans and gender non conforming students. In this moment where our State legislature continues to wage war against our trans and queer youth both on the field and in the classroom, Kattoris Bang provides participants with vital knowledge and skills that better prepares educators to address various forms of gender based harm and violence against trans and gender non comforming youth in their classrooms. Participants will practice and strategize in real time responsible and just ways of addressing gender based harm and violence that may come up in the classroom, dance floor and/or the athletic field. As we work towards creating a reality where trans and gender non conforming youth are given the space and opportunity to thrive, we must equip ourselves with the necessary tools to hold gender inclusive classrooms and programming. Join Nathalie Nia Faulk and indee mitchell of Kattoris Bang! for an Intro Discourse on Gender for Educators. In this 2-hour introductory session participants will learn: - Basic terminology around gender and sexuality- A brief history of how we understand gender today in the United States/Western context- Best practices for creating and holding spaces that include trans and gender non-conforming students, co-workers and community members- Possible disruptions and follow up steps to gender based harm that could be happening in your spaces/classes.
